The book “Night” by Elie Wiesel is probably the most shocking and horrific books i have ever read. The book pretty much sums up what it was like to live in a concentration camp. I'm sure that there is no way to even come close to describing how awful it actually was unless you were actually there. I am imagining that it is a lot worse to go through than it is to read about it. There are so many situations in the story of just jaw dropping gruesome scenes. I finally realized why we had to get a permission slip to read this book.
The main story is about how a Jewish village is taken away and put into a concentration camp. A 15 year old boy and his father were together the whole time in the story. It is a miracle that that happened because most families would never see each other again. They were together until his father died in the concentration camp. It is amazing how they lived though all of the tough times in the camp and came out sane. I don't think i his lifetime he will ever forget what he has gone through in the camp. No one today will ever hopefully have to go through what the victims of the holocaust went through.
The holocaust changed people into beasts. People would murder each other for literally crumbs of bread. A man in the train beat his father to death for a piece of bread. The father was planning on sharing the bread with his son but since the son had no feelings for anyone but himself he did not even think about the fact that he was murdering someone, let alone his own father. I find that it is unbelievable that people can treat other human beings like that. I can't process the fact that people were slaughtered because of their own personal beliefs. I am glad the the war was over before the Nazis could do any more damage than they already did. Even after reading this book i am still in awe about how this happened not too long ago.
