HORRIFIC

The memoir “Night” by Elie Wiesel is a horrific true story about the struggle of Jews during the holocaust. Wiesel who was born in the country of Romania was captured along with thousands of other Jews. These prisoners were captured, killed, and forced into labor. They would be abused horrendously and beaten sometimes even to death. The way they treat children is just disgusting. Referencing back to Maus, the Nazis would grab children by their legs and swing them against the wall until they couldn’t suffer anymore. Also earlier in Night, on page 32 to be exact, babies were thrown into a flame. I know that we discussed this page last week but it just refuses to leave my mind. Just imagining this gives me nightmares but I can’t even comprehend how people witnessing this may feel. Nightmares for them are the least of their issues. Also, imagine you along with Wiesel witnessing this whole thing and then you see your baby or a baby you know getting thrown into the fire sharing the same fate as the rest. If I was witnessing that happen I would just lose my mind. Actually, no, I don’t even know what I would do because I can’t visualize myself experiencing something as bad as the holocaust.

In the story, not only have I felt anger and pain but I have also felt sympathy. People managing to use their minds to know what’s best during a time where I wouldn’t be able to even think. I’m also very impressed on the fact that Elie Wiesel was brave enough to share his story to the world knowing that millions would read it. If I was Wiesel I would find it extremely hard to give my story out to the world knowing that I lost loved ones during these tragic events. I’m sure that during Elie Wiesel’s process of writing this book, there were times where he had to take breaks because it brought back so many painful memories of something so depressing.

Overall, I have found this book very interesting from start to end even though it was very hard for me to read through the disgusting,  cruel parts. Later on and  throughout high school I would like to read more of Wiesels writing because I found it very articulate(vocab word) and very intriguing(previous vocab word). I hope also that in high school we learn more about this topic not only in ELA because I find this one of the most interesting topics in history.
